Formerly known as Little Cow Harbor in about 1700, as Centreport in 1836, and as Centerport after 1895, the name refers to its geographic position midway between the east and west boundaries of the town of Huntington. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP populace was 5,508. It is positioned in the town of Huntington.
